Water Resource Management and the Impact in Local Communities

Lama Abdallah, Sarah Baldwin, Corwin Green, Julia Robinson & Samantha Sirois

This project seeks to understand the impact of water scarcity and mismanagement in five different communities around the globe. Through this framework, we explore the issues surrounding water scarcity and mismanagement, including obtaining clean drinking water and the impact on water-dependent communities (I.e. fishing, irrigation systems, etc.) We use two perspectives in order to understand the impact of water management in present and future communities. First, we explore areas with current and immediate issues with water management. Second, we project issues that future communities will face if water mismanagement continues. Utilizing this knowledge, we propose several solutions to combat the issue of water mismanagement today, and in the future. Through the concepts of Dialectical Materialism, Structural-Functionalism, Structuralism, and early French Science of Society, we frame the issue of water mismanagement in order to understand the impacts on local cultures and communities.
