Climate Change

Global Strategies in Managing the Commons: A Tragedy

Jared Kerzner & Jessica Rodkey

In the past decade, news of ‘global warming’ and climate change’ have increased drastically; however, few answers have surfaced concerning what actions are most appropriate with respect to this ‘wicked problem.’ Our project seeks to examine how different human cultures have responded to changing in their local environmental conditions as a result of global climate change as manifested in the management o their natural resources. These responses will be scientifically evaluated based on their effectiveness and sustainability as guided by Hardin’s theory of the ‘Tragedy of the Commons.’ We propose to conduct a relevant search of global news and scientific articles pertaining to the effects of climate change on human groups frm around the world. Additionally, articles containing information about human response to climate change in the past will be discussed in order to most accurately depict the success or failure of 21st century natural resource management practices.
