Anth 407 Presentations Spring 2014

According to many scholars, the problems that we are facing in the twenty-first century are “wicked problems.” By this, they mean that many issues, such as health, food security, water scarcity, inequality, poverty, and hunger, are not simple but rather complex issues that cut across multiple disciplinary fields. This assignment asked students to identify a “wicked” problem they would like to learn more about, and research how anthropologists over time have addressed this problem.

For the presentation portion students were asked to design a visual presentation for the public portion of this project. They were encouraged, as you can see in the examples shown here, to be creative with the presentation component of this by thinking about it as a “curated” exhibit of material. As a result, they came up with a high quality presentation that disseminates research findings in a visually engaging way.

Students chose to address the following themes:

Climate Change

Water

Food

Inequality and Injustice

Urbanization and Urban Landscapes

Health

Note on Alms
